Abstract

ABSTRACT Nanda Yurika Ramadhan, (2021): The Effect of Spelling Bee Game in Reading Narrative Text of the Tenth Grade Student at Senior High School 3 Singingi Hilir. This research was conducted due to the problems faced by students in learning the language, especially in the understanding narrative texts. The problems were the students are less interested in reading, unable to identify the meaning of reading, have lack of vocabulary, not able to understand the text, and it is difficult to answer the questions from the text of reading. So, researcher was interested in doing a research on these problems by using the strategy Spelling Bee Game. This research was conducted with the aim to find out the significant influence of using the Spelling Bee strategy in learning narrative text at SMAN 3 Singingi Hilir. The design of this study was a Quasi experimental. In data collection, researcher used multiple-choice tests to find out students achievement in understanding narrative texts. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample T-test through SPSS version 24 and eta-square formula. The researcher found that there was a significant influence of Spelling Bee Game in learning narrative text at SMAN 3 Singingi Hilir, where the value of eta-squared was 0.508 with large effect category, so null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
