Abstract

ABSTRACT Siti Ulya Hilmawati, (2021) : An Analysis of Students’ Writing Ability in Explanation Text at Senior High School 2 Tambang. The purpose of this research was to analyze students‟ writing ability in explanation text at eleventh grade of Senior High School 2 Tambang. This research was descriptive research. The subject of this research was eleventh grade students of Senior High School 2 Tambang while the object of this research was students‟ writing ability in explanation text. The researcher used simple random sampling technique to take sample. From 332 students of the total population which consisted of ten classes the researcher has randomly selected 66 students‟ as the sample. In collecting the data the researcher used test. The test was conducted to find out students ability in writing explanation text. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the students‟ were not able to use mechanics correctly. It was based on students‟ percentage of the students‟ writing ability in explanation text. The percentage of the students‟ ability in mechanics was 24%, grammar and vocabulary was 25%, structure of the text 25% and developing of ideas 26%. From the four components of writing explanation text, the researcher found that the students strong in developing of ideas and weak in mechanics. The result of the data analysis was the students‟ writing ability in explanation text at eleventh grade of Senior High School 2 Tambang was categorized into Fair categorize.
