Abstract

ABSTRACT Haqkie Sulaiman (2021): The Effectiveness of Interlocutor Strategy toward Students’ Speaking Ability at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru The main focus of this study is to investigate whether there was a significant different effectiveness of interlocutor strategy toward the second-year students’ speaking ability at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems into three research questions answered by using experiment research. This research had two variables, effectiveness of interlocutor strategy as an independent variable and students’ speaking ability as a dependent variable. This is experimental research. The researcher selected two classes from a total of six classes by using cluster random sampling techniques. There were 25 students from 11 AK B class and 25 students from 11 AK F class of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru as sample. In collecting data, the researcher used an oral speaking test. In data analysis, the researcher used T-Test and effect size formula. The findings showed that experiment class using interlocutor strategy got the result to mean score is 57.52 and standart deviation is 1.92. For the result post-test to mean score is 73.2 and standart deviation is 4.47. Control class is not using interlocutor strategy got the result pre-test to mean score is 57.32 and standart deviation is 1.76. for the result post-test to mean score is 62 and standart deviation 4.73. Based on the analysis of the t-test level, from df = 48, it was found that the significance level is 2.68 in 1% level and 2.01 in 5% level, it can be seen 2.01<8.26>2.68 as the result of t-test. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Then, the effect size is 0.8 categorized into medium effective. It can be concluded that there is a significant effectiveness of interlocutor strategy toward students’ speaking ability at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru.
