Abstract

ABSTRACT HAYUNING PUTRI, (2021):Professional Development Activities of Experienced English Teachers : ACase Study of English Teachers at Private Islamic Junior High Schools in Pekanbaru. This research aimed to explore the kinds of professional development activities of experienced English teachers and the influencing factors participating in the professional development activities of the experienced English teachers at two rivate Islamic junior high Schools in Pekanbaru. Qualitative approach was used to carry out the research using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by conducting an a semi-structured interview involving only three English teachers of two private Islamic junior high chools in Pekanbaru. Documentation was also used to enrich the data obtained from the interview. The first finding of this research showed that the professional development activities followed by the experienced English teachers covered Class Action Research, Teacher Deliberation, Education and Training, Technical Guidance of the Curriculum, Module Alignment Training and Teacher‟s Journal Reflection of the Seminar, E-learning Training, Communicating Training, The Education Training System during Covid 19, Google Certified Teachers and How to Teach Online to the Students Training. Then, the second finding was that there were two factors influencing the experienced English teachers in participating the professional development activities; namely, internal and external factors. The nternal factors included professional attitude, self efficacy and professional characteristics, while the external factors included funding, principal influence, school collegue influence,and school culture influence. The biggest problem faced by the experienced English teachers participating in the professional development activities was the time. Based on the findings, it is recommended the government and the school need to consider the time when designing the professional development activities for the teachers in the future.
