Abstract

TRI ASMAWATI (2021) : AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ACTION VERB ERRORS IN WRITING NEWS ITEM TEXT AT MA DARUL HIKMAH PEKANBARU The researcher made a research question about what are the types of the students‟ action verb errors in writing news item. The purpose of this research was to know the types of students‟ action verb errors in writing news item text at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. This research was a quantitative descriptive research. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students of MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru.The sample were 29 students, it was considered by using simple random sampling. The instrument was a document of students‟ result that was collected by the English teacher. The researcher analyzed the data by classifying the error based on the Dulay (1982) and divided the students‟ errors through action verb categories. Students‟ errors in action verb show activity categories were 80 items or 74.8%, students‟ errors in action verb show process categories was 15 items or 14%, students errors in action verb show momentary were 2 items or 1.9%, and students‟ errors in action verb show mental action were 10 items or 9.3%. Based on the errors presentation, the researcher concluded that the common errors were action verb show activity categories with 80 items error or 74.8%.
