Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the contribution of part of speech knowledge toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay, investigating the contribution of syntactical comprehension toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay and investigating the contribution of part of speech knowledge and syntactical comprehension toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay at the English education department of UIN Suska Riau. This research was a correctional research. The subjects of this research were the second-year students, the sample of this research were 75 students which was obtained in three classes randomized from five classes that was found using total random sampling technique at English Education Department of UIN SUSKA Riau (2018-2019). The object of this research was the contribution of part of speech knowledge and syntactical comprehension toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay. The data were collected by using multiple choice-test and writing-test. The data was analyzed by using multiple regression technique using SPSS 24 program. Based on data analysis, the writer concluded that there was the contribution of part of speech knowledge and syntactical comprehension toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay. It was considered from Sig. (2-tailed) =0.00 that was lower than α (0.05). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It means that, there was the contribution of part of speech knowledge and syntactical comprehension toward students’ ability of writing narrative essay at the English Education Department of UIN Suska Riau.
