Abstract

ABSTRACT Septi Awaliyah (2021): The Correlation between Students' Pleasure Reading and their Writing Skill at Senior High School 1 Tandun This research is a correlational research. The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between students’ pleasure reading and their writing skill at Senior High School 1 Tandun. The research was conducted based on the preliminary study at Senior High School 1 Tandun, which showed that writing problem that faced by the students. The preliminary study showed that some of students did not like read books and also cannot make good writing, some of students like to read a book but cannot make good writing. Based on the problems, the researcher wanted to see if they having pleasure reading. Questionnaire and writing test were used to measure the correlation between students’ pleasure reading and their writing skill. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of Senior High School 1 Tandun with total 202 students and the sample were 51 students taken using simple random sampling technique. The writer used Pearson product moment correlation through SPSS 17.0 to analyse the data. Based on the result of the analysis, it was found that sig.r obtained value is 0.000 lower than alpha value (0.05). It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected while alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The value of correlation coefficient (r) is 0.785. In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between pleasure reading and writing skill at Senior High School 1 Tandun. Keywords: Pleasure Reading, Writing Skill.
