Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is started since many people of Indonesian held the tradition to pray for people passed away, even for nonmoslem or moslem. For many people helding this tradition, the writer will discuss about whether there is a hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam about this praying for passed away people or just the words of scholars, even if there is a hadith, what is the quality of the hadith. And how does the implementation in order that will not violate Islamic religious law. Thus, in this study the writer wants to explain how the implementation of the praying for passed away people tradition in Mahato Village. To find out the quality of the hadith here, the writer takes the process of takhrij hadith on the hadith kenduri. The kind of this research uses descriptive method with a qualitative approach as result it can directly find out the implementation of this praying for passed away people tradition due to the Islamic religious law. Meanwhile, the research data is collected using observation, interviews, and documentation obtained directly from sources related to the research. In this case, the informants consist of religious leaders, traditional leaders, and several Mahato km 15 people who had carried out or followed the praying for passed away people tradition.
