Abstract

The research had three formulation of the problems; how the students’ reading comprehension taught by using Paired Reading technique of the second year students at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru is, how students’ reading comprehension taught by using Jigsaw technique of the second year students at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru is, and whether there is or no a significant difference of reading comprehension between the students taught by using Paired Reading technique and Jigsaw technique of the second year at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru. The objectives of the research were to find out the reading comprehension taught by using Paired Reading and Jigsaw technique at the second year students at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru and to find out a significant difference of reading comprehension between the students taught by using Paired Reading technique and Jigsaw technique at the second year at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru. The research design was a comparative research. The population of this research was the second year students of State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru. They consisted of nine classes (307 students), five classes for science department and four classes for social department. The sample of this research was 70 students taken from two classes (35 students in each class). They were XI science 2 who were taught by using Paired Reading technique and XI science 3 who were taught by using Jigsaw technique. The technique of collecting data used by researcher was test, used to find out the students’ achievements in reading comprehension on narrative text. The technique of analyzing data was an independent t-test and it was eased by using SPSS 16 program. Based on the data analysis, the researcher concluded that there is a significant difference of reading comprehension between the students taught by using Paired Reading technique and Jigsaw technique of the second year at State Senior High School 3 Pekanbaru. It was considered from tobtained = 3.926 that was higher than ttable either at 5%=2.00 nor 1%=2.65. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.
