Abstract

The title of this research was “The Effect of Using Overview, Ask, Read, Write, Evaluate,and Test ( OARWET ) Method Toward Reading Comprehension of the Second Year Students at State Junior High School 3 Kepenuhan, Regency of RokanHulu”. The research consisted of three formulations of the problem: how students’ reading comprehension taughtby using OARWET method was, how students’ reading comprehension taught by using conventional strategy was, and whether or not there was thosea significant difference between students taughtby using OARWET method and students taught by using conventional strategy to improve their reading comprehension. The objective of this research was to find out the effectof using Overview Ask, Read,Write,Evaluate and Test ( OARWET) Method Toward Reading Comprehension Of The Second Year Students at State Junior High School 3Kepenuhan, Regency of RokanHulu. The research was carried out at SMPN 3 Kepenuhan. It was conducted from Februari to Maret 2013. The subject of the research was the second year students of SMPN 3 Kepenuhan. The population of this research was 50 students. The technique of data collection used in this research was test. The test was given to know the students’ reading comprehension. The test was given twice, before and after treatment. The result of test beforetreatment indicated that the students’ reading comprehension in experiment class was “enough” with mean 55.04 and control class was “less” with mean 49.28.The result of test after treatment indicated that the students’ reading comprehension of experiment class was “good” with mean 69.28, while at control class was “enough” with mean 59.36 After the data were analyzed by t-test, it was obtained that the mean of the students’ score after treatment was higher than the mean of students’ score before treatment, where was higher than at the significant level of 5% and 1% (2.01 <5.271>2.68). It means, was accepted and was rejected, So in conclusion there was a significant difference of using Overview Ask, Read, Write, Evaluate and Test ( OARWET) Method Toward Reading Comprehension Of The Second Year Students at State Junior High School 3 Kepenuhan, Regency of RokanHulu.
