Abstract
This research was conducted because some problems were faced by students in learning English especially in reading comprehension of hortatory exposition text. Some of the problems were: some of students were not able to identify the topic at the text, some of students were not able to comprehend the main idea or details of hortatory exposition text, Some of students find difficulties in comprehending text, especially in hortatory exposition text, some of students were not able to identify language feature and some of students were not able to identify the purpose at the text. The purposes of this research were to know how the students’ reading comprehension taught by using Chapter Tours strategies, how the students’ reading comprehension taught by using conventional strategies, whether there is a significant effect of using Chapter Tours strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at MAN Lipatkain Kampar Kiri. The writer wrote the formulation of the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. That was a quasi experimental research by using non equivalent control group design. In analyzing data, the writer used SPSS 16 version. Research finding showed that the students’ reading comprehension taught by using Chapter Tours strategy was categorized into very good level, the students’ reading comprehension taught by using conventional strategy was categorized into enough level, and there was a significant effect of Chapter Tours strategy toward students’ reading comprehension. It can be seen from score of ttest was 5.922, based on t-table 2.01<5.922>2.68.
