Abstract
Based on the writer’s primary observation, the writer found that many of the students still had some difficulties in comprehending the reading text. This problem was caused by some factors. For example, some of the students were not able to find the main idea, the topic, and information in reading narrative text. So the writer was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The writer wanted to find out the effect of using of Literture Circles strategy toward students’ reading comprehension. The research was administered at SMAN 1Kampar Kiri.The subject of the research was the first year students of SMAN 1 Kampar Kiri, and the object of this research was the effect of using Literature Circles Strategy. The design of this research was Quasiexperimental design. The population of this research was all of the first year students. The total number of population was 124 students. Because the number of population was large, the writer used cluster random sampling technique in taking the sample in which class X.3 consisted of 30 students as experiment class and class X.4 that consisted of 30 students as control class. So the number of samples from two classes was 60 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted paired sample ttest formula by using manual. The instrument of this study was test. The student’s score was compared with the table ttable considered with degree of freedom (df). After analyzing the data, the writer found the result ttest above, the ttest sign is (2.00<3.39>2.65). It means that there was a significant effect of using Literture Circles Strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of the first year at SMAN 1 Kampar Kiri. So, the use of Literature Circles strategy has given a better effect for students’ reading comprehension of narrative text.
