Abstract

This research focused on the students’ speaking fluency. The speaking fluency divided into four indicators. They are pause, rate, utterance and volume. The purpose of this research was to know students’ speaking fluency of the Tenth Grade of State Senior High School 10 PekanbaruThe research design was descriptive quantitative research which focused on one variable. There were 63 students taken as this research sample selected through simple random sampling technique. The researcher conducted speaking test to know score of students’ speaking fluency. The students were allowed to choose one of three topics provided and were asked to deliver short talks. These short talks were recorded digitally. The data was analyzed by calculating the mean and the percentage of each indicator. The result of this research show that the average scores of students’ speaking fluency at Tenth Grade of State Senior High School 10 Pekanbaru was 79. The percentage of each indicator, namely: Pause (25%), Rate (25%), Utterance (24%), and Volume (26%). So, the result of the data analysis showed that students’ speaking fluency was categorized into good level.
