Abstract

ABSTRACT Dianah Eka Kusuma Ningsih, (2020) : Undergraduate Students’ Perceptions of Blended Learning Model at English Education Department of Public Universities in Pekanbaru This research aimed to investigating the undergraduate students’ perceptions of blended learning model at English education department of public universities in Pekanbaru. By using a mix methods research design, quantitative and qualitative data were collected from 135 undergraduate students of English Education Department. There were 79 undergraduate students of state Islamic university of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau and 56 undergraduate students of Riau University in Pekanbaru. The researcher used proportional random sampling that represented using standard error of 10% as a sample. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire which was created in Google Form responded online by the participants and did an interview via telephone. Twenty of these undergraduate students volunteered to participate in interviews. Statistical analyses were used to analyze responses from closed-ended questionnaire and interviews were analyzed by using content analysis. The findings revealed that the undergraduate students’ perception toward blended learning model was positive reflected of positive beliefs, feeling and behavior toward blended learning model. The participants believe that utilizing blended learning model through learning management system (Edmodo/Google Classroom) in teaching and learning English was beneficial for lecturer and students’ university. The undergraduate students feel enjoyable and easy to use blended learning because it can improve undergraduate students’ intention to do some activities during face-to-face and online learning. Based on the finding above, this research provide insights for evaluation about the application of using a model learning in 21st century especially Covid-19 pandemic crisis such as with using blended learning model through learning management system in teaching and learning English at university.
