Abstract

Based on the preliminary research at State Junior High School 4 Kampar, the writer found that students in this school have varied personality. Those are shown through their behavior. Some students are responsible while others are not, some students have good self-discipline while others do not, etc. Besides, the writer also found that they have varied achievement in English subject. The purposes of this research were to find out how the students’ conscientiousness personality is, how the students’ English achievement is, and to find out whether there is any significant correlation between students’ conscientiousness personality and their English achievement at State Junior High School 4 Kampar, especially at the second year students of that school. The research was a correlational research which consists of two variables (conscientiousness personality and English achievement). The sample of this research was two classes of the second year students at State Junior High School 4 Kampar. The techniques of collecting data that were used by the writer were questionnaire and documentation. The writer used Big Five Inventory (BFI) questionnaire to find out the degree of students’ conscientiousness personality and documentation of students academic achievement to get the students’ English achievement. Based on the data analysis that were analyzed by using SPSS 16.0, it was found that r o is higher than r t both at level 5% and 1%, it can be read as r t (5%) <r o > rt (1%) or 0.304<0.612>0.393. it means that H a is accepted and H o is rejected. Based on this result, the writer could conclude that there is a significant correlation between students’ conscientiousness personality and their English achievement at state junior high school 4 Kampar
