Abstract

ABSTRACT Ulfah Fu’adiyah (2020): The Effect of Using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on Students’ Speaking Ability at SMA IT Bangkinang. The research was conducted based on the result of observations in the eleventh grade of SMA IT Bangkinang. Some of the students had problems in learning English, especially in increasing speaking English. It looked from their way in learning English. In this research, the writer used Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), specifically by using Information Transfer Activities to help students in increasing speaking ability. The aim of this research was to determine whether there was a significant effect of used Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on students’ speaking ability. This research is experimental research, which is a pre-experimental design by a one group pre-test post-test technique. The population of this research is an eleventh grade of SMA IT Bangkinang. The total population was 110 students, while for sample selection the writer used cluster random sampling technique. There were 21 students as a sample of this research. In collecting the data, the writer used spoken test to know students’ speaking ability. The data were presented in paired sample T-test through the SPSS version 23.0 program. The result of data analyzed show that the mean score of students taught before using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is 64.40, while the score of students taught after using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is 75.95 where Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Thus, the writer concluded that there were significant differences before and after implementing Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on eleventh grade students at SMA IT Bangkinang.
