Abstract

ABSTRACT DEWI EKA PUTRI, (2020): The Effect of Using Talking Chips Technique on Students’ Speaking Ability at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 1 Tambusai Based on the writer’s observation at Senior High School 1 Tambusai, most of the students had problems in speaking activities in teaching and learning process because they don’t know how to apply the theory that they had learnt in real situation. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there is a significant difference on students’ speaking ability taught by using talking chips technique and taught without using talking chips technique of the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 1 Tambusai This research was experimental research. The type of this research was quasi experimental design. It consisted of two classes, they were experimental class and control class. The population of this research was the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 1 Tambusai. The total of population of the eleventh grade students was 150 students from 6 classes. The sample was XI.IPA1 as control class and XI.IPA2 as experimental class. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling. The writer used speaking test to collect the data and to know students’ speaking ability. In analyzing the data, to find out whether there is a significant difference on students’ speaking ability taught by using talking chips technique and taught without using talking chips technique, the writer used independent sample t-test. Based on the analysis through SPSS 18, it was found that the score of to was 2.013 and ttable from df was 48 at the level significance of 5 % is 1.677 and the level significance of 1 % is 2.406. It means that to is higher than ttable. it can be read that 1.677 < 2.013 > 2.406. Thus, the writer concluded that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It means there was significant difference of Students’ Speaking Ability Taught by Using Talking Chips Technique and Taught without Using Talking Chips Technique of the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 1 Tambusai.
