Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant effect of using Exit Slips Strategy on students' writing ability and reading comprehension of Language Development Center of UIN SUSKA Riau. This type of research is Quasi-Experimental Research. The subject of this research is the students of Level II at Language Development Center of UIN SUSKA Riau. This research involves two classes: one class as experiment class and one class as control class. The samples used in this study are 34 students drawn from 3.500 population. In data collection, the researcher used Tests and Observations. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Independent Statistical Formula of sample t-test and paired sample t-test, as well as using Influence Size Formula. Finally, the researcher found that significant values are 0.000 and 0.000 which are smaller than p-value (0.005). This means that there is a significant effect of using Exit Slips Strategy on students' writing and reading abilities on initial tests and on final tests in the experimental class. In addition, the values of eta squares are 0.22 and 0.63. In other words, there is a significant effect of using Exit Slips Strategy on the ability to write and read of the students on Descriptive Text, and the effect is categorized into high effect. In conclusion, Exit Slips Strategy can be applied in writing and reading learning at Language Development Center of UIN SUSKA Riau
