Abstract
The objective of this study was to find out the correlations of speaking motivation and speaking anxiety on the students’ speaking ability. The research design is a Correlational Research. The population of this research is the second level of Islamic Law students of Language Development Center of UIN SUSKA Riau Pekanbaru in the academic year of 2015/2016 which consist of seven classes. The total number of the students was 224 students, while the sample was 130 taken by Random Sampling Technique. The instruments in collecting the data were Questionnaire And Interview. In analyzing the data of the study, Multiple Regression (SPSS 20)is used. After analyzing the data, it is obtained that the students’ speaking motivation was in medium level (M-82.15, SD =90.00, and speaking anxiety was in medium level (M-103.18 SD=15.09. Furthermore, students’ speaking ability was in medium level (M-18.99 SD=5.53. The finding indicated that there was a significant influence of students’ speaking motivation and speaking anxiety toward students’ speaking ability at Language Development Center on SUSKA RIAU, in which F 240.762 p=0.000<0.05. Then, the determination influence of students’ speaking motivation and speaking anxiety were R2 0.791 (79% ). Moreover, speaking motivation (β=0.71 ) showed higher influence rather than students’ anxiety (β=-0.169 ). Thus, an alternative hypothesis that there was a significant influence of students’ speaking motivation and speaking anxiety toward speaking ability at Language Development Center of UIN SUSKA Riau Pekanbaru was accepted. The result of the research shows that speaking motivation and speaking anxiety were important variables for speaking ability. Both variables have a significant contribution to speaking skill. Therefore, students’ speaking motivation should be increased and students’ anxiety should be decreased in improving the speaking skill. They contribute to improve speaking skill in addition to the other variables’ contribution
