Abstract

This main aim of this research was to find out whether to find out there is any significant the effect of using mobile phone on the students’ involvement in learning English at Language Center of UIN Suska Riau and to obtain the students’ English involvement using mobile phone technology in learning English. Based on the preliminary observation, it was found that the students only use mobile phone as communication. They do not realize that the mobile phone can be used for learning language especially in learning English. As we know, in 21st Century Education,the teachers and the students must have ability to use ICT in Education. From the Mobile Phone especially Android Smart Phone Application, there are many lessons about English and the students can learn English it self. So, the main problem of this research, the students are not accustomed in using Mobile Phone in learning language. The design of this research a quasi-experimental study: the pre-test-post-test non-equivalent group design. The population in this research is the entire of the second semester of TIF and psychology students of UIN suka Riau. The number of population is 120 students with consist of 4 classes. Due to the large number of schools and cost efficiency (economy and feasibility), the researcher considers to get the sample by selecting the intact group as a whole is known as a cluster sampling In this research the researcher selects a specific number of groups and test the entire member in those selected groups. From 2 classes of second semester, each class consists of 28 students which are devided in experimental group and control group. From 2 classes of second semester consists of 28 students which are devided in experimental group and control group. The observation and questionnaire were used to collect the data and data was anlyzed by using compare means and t-test by using SPSS 20.0. By comparing number of significance.If probability > 0.05, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. If probability < 0.05 alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Because the significance is 0.000 < 0.05, thus, Hais accepted while H0 is rejected. the researcher got many experiences how to develop students’ English involvement. As the researcher, own experiences in learning and /or teaching a foreign language that there is no magic formula for successful foreign language learning. The researcher is interested in using Mobile phone technology based on android application because this tools is better to apply in teaching and learning process to increase the students’ English involvement.
