Abstract

ABSTRACT Jenita Monalisa Simanjuntak (2019): The Use of Text Structure Strategy: ‘’It’s Effect on Students’ Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text at SMP Negeri 34 Pekanbaru’’ This research was conducted based on some problems in learning English especially in term of reading comprehension of narrative text. The objectives of the research were to find out if there was a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught by using Text Structure Strategy and taught without using Text Structure Strategy at SMP Negeri 34 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was Pre-experimental Research. The population of this research was the eighth grade students. The total number of population was 263 students. The writer used simple random sampling by selecting one class as a sample. VIII1 consisted of 38 students as experiment class. The instrument of this research was the tests which were consisted of pre-test and post-test. The test was about narrative text in which there were 20 items by using multiple-choice. In analysing the data, the writer used paired sample t-test which was analysed statistically by using software 23 version. In order to find out whether or not there was significant effect of using text structure strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. The writer provided the effect size or (Eta squared). Based on the result, it was found that, the result, it was found that, the result of eta squared was, 0.93>0.14 that was categorized into large effect. It means, Ho is rejected while Ha is accepted. In conclusion, there was significant effect of using text structure strategy on students reading comprehension at The Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 34 Pekanbaru.
