Abstract

ABSTRACT Mutiara Ningsih, (2019): Using Think, Predict, Read, and Connect Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text at State Islamic Senior High School 2 Model Pekanbaru The main focus of this research is to investigate whether there was a significant effect of using Think, Predict, Read, and Connect Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at State Islamic Senior High School 2 Model Pekanbaru. The writer formulated the problems into three research questions that would be answered by using quantitative research, that is; Is there any significant effect on students’ reading comprehension by using Think, Predict, Read, and Connect strategy at State Islamic Senior High School 2 Model Pekanbaru?. This research had two variables, Think, Predict, Read, and Connect strategy as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension of reading from students as a dependent variable. This research was a quasi-experimental research. The writer selected two classes from total six classes by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental and control class. There were 56 students as sample out of 168 students. In collecting the data, the writer used multiple choice. In analyzing the data, the writer used independent sample t-test formula calculated by using SPSS 23 Version continued by using eta square formula. Based on the analysis of t-test formula, the sig. Value is 0.001. It could be stated that 0.000<0.05. Then, the effect size is 0.2 categorized into large level. The writer concluded that there is significant effect by using Think, Predict, Read, and Connect strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at State Islamic Senior High School 2 Model Pekanbaru.
