Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurzila, (2019): The Correlation between Students’ Attitudes toward Teachers’ Error Correction and Their Writing Skill at State Senior High School 1 Salo. In this study, the researcher aimed to find the correlation between students’ attitudes toward teachers’ error correction and their writing skill at state Senior High School 1 Salo Kampar regency. The specific objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant correlation between students’ attitudes toward teachers’ error correction in improving their writing skill or not. This study was conducted state Senior High School 1 Salo Kampar regency on 2nd of May 2019. The population in this study was 120 students and the samples ware 30 students. For the technique of taking sample, researcher used simple random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaires to assess students’ attitudes toward teachers’ error correction which consisted of 20 statements and written test in writing recount text of this study. The questionnaires given to the students after giving try out test were determined by the validity and reliability of statements to the other students before giving the test to the samples . In written test, the score was evaluated by two raters. To determine the relationship between two variables researched, researcher used the Pearson Product-Momment Correlation formula and analyzed by using SPSS version 21.0. In this research, the data were analyzed by using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation coefficient through SPSS 21.00. The result of this research showed that sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.015. It can be stated that 0.015 < 0.05. It means that null hypothesis( H_o) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (H_a) is accepted. The value of correlation coefficient (r) was 0.440. In conclusion, there is a significant positive correlation between students’ attitudes toward teachers’ error correction and their writing skill. The researcher also found that 19.36% of student attitude could influence their writing skill. It means that students with positive attitude get better writing skill that the negative one.
