Abstract
Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation and information from the English teacher at SMP N 1 Kampar Airtiris, it was found that some of the eight grade students had problems in reading comprehension, especially in narrative text. They could not reach the passing grade (KKM). The main focus of this research was to find out whether there is a significant effect of using and without using Collaborative Strategy Reading on students’ reading comprehension at SMP N 1 Kampar Airtiris. The researcher formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. This research had two variables using Collaborative Strategy Reading as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable. The type of research was a Quasiexperimental research. The subject of this research was the Eight Grade at SMP N 1 Kampar Airtiris. The researcher took two classes: experimental and control class. There were 52 students as sample from 285 Eight Grade at SMP N 1 Kampar Airtiris. In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choice tests. In analyzing the data, the researcher used an independent t-test formula by using SPSS 16 version. Based on the analysis of T-test Formula, Ha is accepted because the sig. value is 0.001<0.05. The research can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using Collaborative Strategy Reading on reading comprehension of narrative text at the Eight Grade students of SMP N 1 Kampar Airtiris..
