Abstract

This research was conducted based on some problems in learning English especially lack of vocabulary in reading a text. The objectives of the research were to find out if there is a significant effect on students’ vocabulary in reading by using Motor Imaging Strategy and without using Motor Imaging Strategy at State Junior High School 01 Kampar. The design of this research was QuasiExperimental Research. The population of this research was the eighth grade students. The population was 312 students. Since the number of population was large, the writer used cluster random sampling by selecting two classes as a sample of group; VIIIi consisted of 31 students as an experimental class and VIIIj consisted of 31 students as a control class, so the number of the samples from two classes was 62 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted Independent Sample t-test formula by using SPSS 16. After analyzing the data, the writer found that there was a significant effect of using Motor Imaging Strategy on Vocabulary in Reading of the Eighth Grade Students at State Junior High School 01 Kampar, where the result of sig. (2 tailed) 0.000 < 0.05 (level of significance), it means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and there is a significant of using Motor on Imaging Strategy on students’ vocabulary in reading. Next, the result of effect size was categorized into large effect. In conclusion, there was a significant effect of implementing Motor Imaging Strategy on students’ vocabulary in reading.
