Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading narrative text. The researcher found that the students still had difficulties in comprehending the reading text. So, the researcher was interested in carrying out the research about these problems. In this case, the researcher provided Suggestopedia Strategy to help students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. The objectives of the research were to find out the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text taught by using Suggestopedia strategy of the second grade at State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu Rokan Hulu Regency, to find out the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text taught without using Suggestopedia strategy of the second grade at State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu Rokan Hulu Regency, and to find out whether there is or not significant effect of using Suggestopedia strategy towards reading comprehension on narrative text of the second grade at State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu Rokan Hulu Regency.In this research, the research design was a quasi-experimental research. The population of the research was the second grade students of State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu Rokan Hulu Regency in academic year 2016/2017. They consisted of ten classes. The total number of population was 322 students. The sample classes were 64 taken from two classes (32 students in each class). The technique of collecting data was test, used to find out the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text. The technique of analyzing data was an independent sample t-test and eta-square. It was eased by using SPSS 22 program. The result of independent sample t-test found that sig (2tailed) was 0.001 (0.001<0.05) means that the null hyphotesis was rejected while the alternatif hyphotesis was accepted. Finally, based on the research findings, the researcher concluded that there is a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension taught by using Suggestopedia Strategy.
