Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the students’ ability in writing, especially in descriptive paragraph taught and without being taught by using Memorise and Draw Game whether there is a significant difference of the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph between before and after being taught by using Memorise and Draw Game of the second year students at State Junior High School 1 Kampar. This research was carried out because based on writer’s preliminary study, they still faced many problems in writing descriptive paragraph, such as some of the students did not know what descriptive paragraph had, lack of using vocabularies, and could not write descriptive paragraph grammatically. The design of this research was an experimental research. The type of the research was of quasi experimental research. The researcher took two classes as the sample of the research that consisted of 30 students in each class. Cluster random sampling technique was used by the writer to take the sample. The technique of data collection was test. Meanwhile, to analyze the data the writer used Independent Sample T-test formula by using SPSS 16.0 Version. After having calculated the scores, the writer found the result of t-test was 2.807, df = 58, mean difference was 8.53, and standard error difference was 3.03.Thus, the writer used two ways in interpreting to by comparing to (t-obtained) to ttable. From df = 58. Level of significance of 5% was 2.00 and level significance of 1% was 2.66. It could be seen that 2.00<2.807> 2.66. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there is a significant difference of the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph between taught by using the Memorise and Draw Game taught without using the Memorise and Draw Game of the second year students at State Junior High School 1 Kampar.
