Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by students in learning English especially in reading descriptive text. the students had problems to comprehend the descriptive text. the researcher was interested in carrying out the research on these problems. The research had two variables in which using SQ3R Strategy was an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension was a dependent variable. The type of research was a experimental research. The subject of this research was the eight grade students at Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru. The researcher took two classes : VIII.1 was an experimental class. And VIII.2 was a control class. There were 25 students of experimental and there were 25 students of control class, sample from 25 students at Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru. In collecting data, the researcher used multiple choices test. the rsearcher used a independent test by using SPSS 16 version for the data analysis. the result show that if probability > 0.05, null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. if probability < 0.05 alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted. because the significance was 0.000<0.05, Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. It could be concluded that there is a significant effect of using SQ3R Strategy on Reading Comprehension at Junior High School AsShofa Pekanbaru.
