Abstract

This research was conducted based on the students’ problem in speaking ability, for instance, some of the students were not able to use appropriate grammar and vocabulary, to pronounce words correctly, to speak fluently and some of the students were not confident to speak English in describing something orally. Therefore, this research was aimed 1) to investigate students’ speaking ability in describing something before being taught by using Talk Fast-Talk a Mile a Minute Game, 2) to investigate students’ speaking ability in describing something after being taught by using Talk Fast-Talk a Mile a Minute Game, 3) to investigate whether there is a significant difference between students’ speaking ability in describing something before and after being taught by using Talk FastTalk a Mile a Minute Game at the eighth grade of MTsN Bukit Raya Pekanbaru. In this pre-experimental research, the writer applied cluster random sampling as the technique used. Overall population of the research was 125 students. The class chosen was VIII B consisting of 32 students. The technique of analyzing the data was Paired Sample T-test. The result of data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between students’ speaking ability in describing something after being taught by using Talk Fast-Talk a Mile a Minute Game, in which the Sig (2-tailed) 0.000 had less value than 0.05. Thus, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthermore, there is a significant effect of using the Talk Fast-Talk a Mile a Minute Game on the students’ speaking ability in describing something at the eighth grade of MTsN Bukit Raya Pekanbaru , in which the result of eta squared 0.78 was bigger than 0.71.
