Abstract

This research was correlational research. It was conducted to find out the correlation between Content Schemata and Reading Comprehension of Recount Text of the Second Year Students at State Junior High School 1 Kampar. The specific objective of this research was to find out whether there is or no significant correlation between content schemata and reading comprehension. The population of this research was the second year students which consisted of 11 classes. The total population of this research was 327 students. Because the population was too large, so the reasearcher used simple random sampling technique to take the sample. Thus, the researcher took 30 students as the sample of this research. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire to measure content schemata and multiple choice reading test to measure the students’ reading comprehension. The researcher analyzed the data by using Pearson Product Moment formula of SPSS Version 20.0. Based on the results, it was found that the mean score of students’ content schemata was 79.83 (high level), while their reading comprehension was 73.00 (good level). In terms of the correlation between content schemata and reading comprehension, the researcher found that sig. (2-tailed) < α = 0.000 < 0.005. Thus, the researcher concluded that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Moreover, the researcher found that the value of correlation coefficient (r) was 0.801 which indicated that there was a very strong positive correlation between the two variables. Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between Content Schemata and Reading Comprehension of Recount Text of the Second Year Students at State Junior High School 1 Kampar.
