Abstract

This research entitles “The Correlation between Students’ Reading Fluency and Their Reading Comprehension at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya”. The research had 3 formulation of the problem that how is students’ reading fluency at the eighth grade of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya, how is students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya, and is there any significant correlation between students’ reading fluency and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya. This research conducted to find out the significant correlation between students’ reading fluency ad their reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya. This research was correlational research. There were two variables used in this research. The first was X variable (students’ reading fluency) and Y variable (students’ reading comprehension). The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of Junior High School 2 Sentajo Raya, while the object of this research was reading fluency and reading comprehension. The instruments used in this research were test. For reading fluency, the writer asked the students to read the text about 2-3 minutes in front of class to test the students’ reading fluency. And for reading comprehension the writer used written test in the form of multiple choice. The population of the research was 40 students. Then, in taking the sample, the writer employed simple random sampling. By using product moment formula through SPSS 16.00 in analyzing the data, the writer found that the significant value was 0.009 < 0.05. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between students’ reading fluency and their reading comprehension. Keywords: Correlation, Reading Fluency, Reading Comprehension.
