Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading Hortatory Exposition and narrative text. Based on the preliminary observation, the researcher found that the students still had difficulties in comprehending the reading text. In this case, the researcher provided Three Minute Pause Strategy to help students’ reading comprehension in Hortatory Exposition and narrative text. This research had two formulations of the problem that whether do students taught by using Three Minute Pause Strategy have better score than without got treatment and whether there is any significant effect on students’ reading comprehension of Hortatory Exposition and narrative text. In this research, the research design was an experimental research. The design of this research was quasi-experimental design. The sample of the research was the eleventh grade students of Islamic Senior High School Kuok in academic year 2016/2017. The sample classes were 60 taken from two classes (30 students in each class). The data were collected by using multiple choice tests. The technique of analyzing data was an independent sample t-test by using SPSS 17.0 program. Finally, based on the research findings, the researcher found that the class being taught by using Three Minute Pause Strategy were scores (77.60> 65.73) and the result of T-test Sig. (2 -tailed) that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, the researcher concluded that the students’ reading comprehension had better score and there was a significance effect to improved students’ reading comprehension on Hortatory Exposition and narrative text at Islamic Senior High School Kuok.
